Campground Review: 4J+1+1 RV Park, Ouray, CO

Oddly named park, but it gets the job done. You're right in town and right on the banks of the Umcompahgre River.

58 RV sites, 45 of those with full hookups. All sites have a picnic table and BBQ grill. Roads and sites are gravel/dirt. Sites are quite close together. About a quarter of the sites back up to the river and we were fortunate to get one of those. This is a combination RV park (closest to the office) and mobile home park.

Amenities include wifi, playground, restrooms and laundry. Our own Verizon wifi got reasonable 3G signal, sometimes slow. The parks wifi was okay, but bogged down sometimes and would knock you off. The big draw here is that you can walk to everything in town, it's just two blocks to Main St. There is also a foot bridge at the North end of the park that leads directly to the Ouray Hot Springs Pool and Fellin Park.

We really enjoyed having a river site. The rushing river sound masked the fact that you were very close to your neighbor and it also provided a wonderful cool breeze. Being two blocks from Main Street was incredibly convenient. On Thursday nights in June there are concerts in Fellin Park and we were able to walk to two of them during our stay, great fun and good food and drink. We would stay here again if being close to town was desired.

We paid $495 for two weeks. When we first arrived (June 13th) the park was full on the weekend, but about half on the weekdays. By the end of our stay it was full every night; summer travel had truly begun. Many families and folks on summer vacation.

The river had a lovely cooling effect and created privacy with its constant white noise.
