Campground Review: High Desert RV Park, Albuquerque, NM

High Desert RV Park is pretty basic, sitting right off busy Interstate 40, but it is an inexpensive place to stay with easy access to all that Albuquerque, NM has to offer. At $125/week (plus electricity) it was a bargain compared to another big name RV park next to the Sandia mountains off of I-40 at the East end of ABQ.

Roads are paved, sites are gravel and have a picnic table. There are 76 sites and half are pull throughs. Amenities include laundry and propane. There are 3 separate dog walking areas. Wifi is available for a fee. We used our own and had good 4G Verizon service.

The freeway is less than a quarter mile away so there is always some road noise, earplugs are helpful at night.

The park was clean and well kept. Trees were small, giving me the impression the park was fairly new. There are two other RV parks on this mesa just West of town and they both have many large trees and could be a better option during hot weather, though they are even closer to the freeway. There are also two large RV dealer/parts/service centers right across the freeway.

We had site #803, an end site, which was nice because we had a neighbor on only one side and were deep into the park which means further from the freeway. But, that end site came with a tall light that stayed on all night. We were able to sleep just fine, but others might find this to be a problem.

All in all it was a decent place to stay allowing us quick freeway access to the people, places and services we wanted to visit while in ABQ. The price was very good...we're trying to minimize expenses now because we have a pricey summer ahead of us in Colorado.

Site #803. Our neighbors were pretty close...but we've had worse at other parks.

View down our short row. Neighbors look closer in this photo than they really are.

View down the main road in front of our site toward the office.
The back in sites on the right were filled with older rigs that seemed to be parked here for long term,
though all were neat and tidy without a lot of stuff built up.

Office, laundry, lounge and propane sales.

This was an unusual amenity: a place to clean the interior of your vehicle.

  1. Thanks for sharing this. We are heading back to Austin for a month, and the first stop will be in Albuquerque for a night.

  2. Looking forward to reporting from Colorado. We haven't spent much time there, and so it will be good to have advance scouting.
