Campground Review: Rancho Verde RV Park

Rancho Verde RV Park in Camp Verde, AZ is a lovely small RV park situated in a quiet neighborhood about a half mile West of I-17 as the crow flies. They have 40 sites, just a few are pull throughs. Paved roads, gravel sites with some grass and shade trees. Restroom/Laundry facility is clean and inexpensive.

The owners are friendly and have only owned the place for a year and a half. They work hard to keep it in good shape. They were happy to lend us a plunger for our toilet fiasco and followed up to make sure all was okay afterwards.

You can hear I-17 at night (when the skies are clear) and I was glad we had the windows closed and also glad we weren't staying at one of the other nearby parks that are right next to this busy freeway. The campground access road is very quiet.

We did not use the campground wifi, but our own Millenicom 3G internet service was intermittently slow, and Verizon cell service was good.

We absolutely would stay here again, would even consider staying for a month. Good central location in the Verde Valley, on a quiet neighborhood street, yet just a few minutes drive to shopping and several cute small towns and lots of hiking and great scenery. Very well kept park with good management. You can't go wrong staying here.

Our site #D2. The pull through sites are set up so another rig could be to our right
with their back end adjacent to our back end, allowing each rig to have a private sitting area.

View down the row behind our rig, back in sites on the left that back up to the
quiet neighborhood access road to the park.

View of the road in front of our rig. Laundry room on the right. A row of pretty, deep back in sites
that are about 15 feet above the second level of this park where there are another 8 sites.

  1. Hi, just found your blog. Enjoyed reading about your experience at Best Friends. We visited there but didn't stay long enough to volunteer. Next time..
Enjoy McDowell Mountain. It is one of our favorite parks. Great hiking and biking and a good location to explore the area.
Maybe we'll see you on the road one day.

  2. Hi, Thanks for reading! I am sorry to read about the loss of your Quincy. Sounds like being around the kitties at Cinderella can help to meet your need to be around furry friends, just like we felt at Best Friends while we are missing our Rosie.

It was wonderful to wake up this morning and see nothing but desert out our window at McDowell! We've got 5 nights at this beautiful park, and lots of peace and quiet and beauty!

I hope we meet you on the road!

  3. Thanks for sharing the info in the last few posts. Nice hiking ideas. We seem to be following you. We spent one night at the Page RV Park site 21 and then boondocked at Lone Rock (Lake Powells shore AZ/UT border)and rode out the storm. We're at the south Rim right now and will head to Camp Verde Monday then Cave CrI eek and eventually McDowell. Internet has been dicey, thus have not updated my blog on our where abouts.

Look forward to more info on McDowell. Safe travels, Ingrid

    1. Great minds think alike you know! ;-)

Don't know if you mountain bike, but the trails here at McDowell are a mtn bikers paradise. We've been joking with the others camped here that it seems to be a mtn biking haven for seniors! There are a number of folks in their 60's and even 70's riding around here. The trails are fun but they won't kill you, just the kind I like for biking. I've also seen hikers on the trails too. Today we biked out by the rocks at the foot of McDowell Mountain, just beautiful!

If you camp here the South loop has the best sites for RV's (according to Wheeling It, I haven't checked out the North loop yet) and the sites on the perimeter of the loop are the best. We are in #62 with nothing but desert out our door!

I hope we get to meet you sometime on the road!

    2. Thank you, appreciate site recommendation at McDowell. We road bike and hike so it sounds perfect. Heading to Cottonwood tomorrow...Dead Horse Ranch SP and a little site seeing around Sedona. After that it'll be Phx :-) Hoping to find some strong internet soon so I can start blogging again.

Maybe we'll run into each other during our AZ meanderings!
